REVIEW OF 2007 SEASON

The season started with the best weather for years but this was followed with some very poor weather from June onwards. The variation in weather conditions across North Wales is most unpredictable and quite often games can be played in the West and not the East and vice versa. Most years this balances out but this year we had one week where only one game was played in the Premier Division. Fortunately did not affect the outcome of the final league placing. Overall, throughout the league almost 21% of scheduled fixtures had to be cancelled due to the weather – the Premier Division faring slightly better due to better covers etc at 14.4%.
The Premier Division was again won by Llandudno who ended up the clear winners with Hawarden Park runners up. Bangor (twice former Premier Division Champions) and Marchweil & Wrexham ended the season in the two relegation positions. Ashley Wood of Menai Bridge won the bowling award with an average of 12.25 although his bowling partner  James Coate took the most wicket with 51 victims. Ed Roberts of Gweryllt Park won the batting award with an average of 44.50
The 1st Division champions were Llanwrst with Bethesda runners up. Llandudno 2nds and Corwen were promoted from Division 2, Bersham and Ruthin from Division 3. Anglesey Aluminium and Menai Bridge 2nds were promoted from Division 4, both these clubs having achieved promotion from Division 5 the previous season. Conwy 2nds and Buckley 2nds gained the promotion places from the 5th Division.
The ‘Development League’, continues to be very successful and more teams competed this year and we formed two divisions on a regional basis with the winners from each division playing for the trophy. The eventual winners were Hawarden Park who beat Llandudno in the play off.
This league now in its third season is providing clubs with the opportunity for their younger players to gain valuable experience and helping them retain those players who are too old for junior cricket but perhaps not yet of a standard to represent their clubs at a senior level. Two of the Premier Division Clubs who have operated a Development Division team have now entered a 3rd XI for the 2008 season which will now bring the total number of teams playing league cricket up to 80 thus creating a seventh division (Division 6)
