This season would see the introduction of Wales playing in the O60s competition, so pre season, nets were arranged at Neath and Cardiff , there was a good attendance at both venues. The season starting early with two preseason get together matches East v. West in early April to gauge the interest in the two age groups. There was an excellent turnout for both matches. The O.50 championship started in early May, playing home to Oxford who were the current Champions, and getting off to a poor start by losing by 80 plus runs, but from there on they won there remaining 6 fixtures, finishing top of their group and qualifying for the knock out stages, playing at home to Cheshire, winning comfortably. On to playing Middlesex at home in the quarter finals, and losing by 20 odd runs. Again progressing to this stage of the competition and failing to go any further.Perhaps in the Chairman’s view we are not quite good enough to go that bit further. The leading run getter was the Captain himself with 370 runs. The wicket takers were shared equally amongst the bowlers. Brian Jones and John Morris has arranged a comprehensive list of friendly fixtures for both the O50 and O60s teams. The O.60 started their season in early May against Devon away, losing by 20 odd runs. They won the next few matches against Somerset, Cornwall and Wiltshire, but failed to qualify for the knock out stages of the competition, but an enjoyable first season. The two internationals against England were not played due to the weather, but a game against a touring Australia side was played at Panteg, with Wales winning by 9 wickets. The O50 committee would like to thank all clubs for allowing us to use their ground and facilities during the season. This is greatly appreciated and if any club would like to put on a match at their ground, especially from now on as we play O.50 and O60 matches, in the championship, but also looking for friendly fixtures as well.
