The summer of 2007 was one probably best forgotten due to the problems caused by the weather. It caused problems with our league, cup and county cricket programme and whilst we managed to complete our cup programme it was only done by re-arranging and more rearranging of cup finals.
The cricketing highlight in Pembrokeshire was unquestionably the hosting of the Friends Provident Cup match between Glamorgan C.C.C. v Surrey C.C.C. by Cresselly C.C. This was the first professional cricket match played in Pembrokeshire and whilst the weather did its best to interrupt play, overall we had an enjoyable days cricket in a match sadly won by Surrey. It would be remiss of me if I did not use this opportunity to both thank and congratulate the Cresselly Club for the enormous amount of work, and lets face it, risk, they put into hosting this match. The organisational effort put in by all members of the club created a tremendous amount of good will towards Pembrokeshire cricket in general and the Cresselly club in particular. Well done.
Our Youth and Junior cricket programme continues to grow and the interest in both junior and senior schools is on the increase as a result of the success of Sageston Junior School in reaching the final of the national Kwick cricket competition at Headingly, and Greenhill Comprehensive School in winning the Welsh under13s championship at Sophia Gardens. Our Regional teams are comfortably holding their own in their respective regional leagues and we are now seeing the benefits of our players playing in a higher standard of cricket.
Last year I mentioned the progress made by fifteen year old Stephen Inward of Llangwm C.C. and Ynysygerwen C.C. In 2007 he became the only Welsh player selected to play for the England U15s. Stephen also played for Glamorgan at U17s, the Glamorgan Academy and Glamorgan 2nds.He also played for the EWCB under16s to become the only Pembrokeshire and Welsh player to be so selected. Watch this space for next season.
Following Stephen we have fourteen year old Andrew Salter of St. Ishmaels C.C. Andrew is the youngest player to have ever appeared in our Harrison Allen Final scoring ninety nine runs in his two innings. Andrew played in every match this year for the Welsh under 14s and has been selected to tour the Caribbean in 2008 with West of England under 15s squad. Another promising player to watch out for and who like Stephen has come through our coaching scheme.
Our ladies cricket was boosted by the Whitland Ladies who made a big impact in their first year in our Ladies Cricket League. During the 2007 season no fewer than six of our lady cricketers represented Wales at various age levels.
Whilst our County selectors managed to arrange a number of County senior cricket matches none of these took place because of the weather. We are forever hopeful for the 2008 season.
For the coming season we have new League sponsors in Antur Insurance Services Ltd who will replace Imperial Garages Ltd. Antur have strong cricket connections within the county and we thank them for their support of Pembrokeshire cricket and wish them every future success.
Finally I must make mention of the success of the St. Ishmaels C.C.  who for the first time ever won our first division and did the double by winning our Harrison Allen Bowl Final again for the first time. Congratulations to Tish and well done.

St. Ishmaels C.C.

At the same I must congratulate Whitland Cricket Club whose youth team have now won the Ormond Youth Cup for four years in succession – a Pembrokeshire first.

For 2008 who knows. Ideally, all most of us will wish for is better weather and the chance to get out during the evenings and weekends to catch up with old friends and acquaintances. Let’s hope our prayers are answered.
