President J. D. W. MacIean Chairman Neil Hobbs Vice Chairman Roger Morris Treasurer Brian Crockett Secretary Steve Jones Assistant Secretary Trevor Jones The sponsors for season 2009 were Antur Insurance (www.anturgroup.co.uk) and the South Wales Cricket Association is grateful for their continued support. Once again the season was adversely affected by the weather and for the second year running we were unable to play the Antur Insurance KO Cup Final. The two finalists, Dafen C.C. and Ynysygerwn C.C. will try again in May 2010.
There were five representative matches scheduled for
season 2010. Two matches started but we only managed to complete one of them. An
excellent total of 292 for 6 in 45 overs was posted against Pembrokeshire in
June but the rain came down after tea and the match was abandoned 9 overs into
the Pembrokeshire innings. The weather was kinder to us for the M.C.C. game and
the match was completed without interruption. M.C.C. posted a total of 215-6
(declared) and S.W.C.A. held on for a respectable draw reaching 200-9. The
Association would like to thank Bronwydd C.C. for the use of their ground and
facilities for this match. Winners of the 1st XI Championships were:
Division 1 - Ammanford C.C. Division 2 - Ynystawe C.C. Division 3 - Maesteg C.C. Division 4 - Cimla C.C. Division 5 - Porthcawl C.C.
Winners of the 2nd XI Championships were:
Division 1 - Pontarddulais C.C. Division 2 - Dafen C.C. Division 3 - Morriston C.C. Division 4 - Cimla C.C. Division 5 - Porthcawl C.C.
The Division One best batting and bowling awards went to:
Lee Thomas - Mumbles C.C. (913 runs) Andrew Phelps - Port Talbot Town C.C. (45 wickets)
Antur Insurance sponsored a "Performer of the Month" award and the winners were:
May - Osian Evans (Drefach C.C.) June - Andrew Rowlands (Briton Ferry Steel C.C.) July - Rhodri Reynolds (Margam C.C.) August - Jamie Lewis (Skewen C.C.)
The Association voted to become a feeder league to the newly formed South Wales Premier Cricket League and Ammanford C.C., Pontarddulais C.C., Port Talbot Town C.C., Swansea C.C. and Ynysygerwn C.C. will be playing Premier League cricket in season 2010. We wish them every success in the new league. Consequently, there was no relegation between the divisions and the Association will re-organise and form four divisions.
The Association toured the Caribbean Islands of Antigua and Barbados in February 2009 and won six out of their eight matches. The next tour is scheduled for 2013 and will be to South Africa. For more information on the South Wales Cricket Association, please visit our Website |
