The 2010 season was another wet one with the Under14’s league affected the most.  Cup competitions were also affected with matches finally being played weeks after the scheduled play by date.  The two outstanding finals from 2009 were played to a conclusion early in May with Ynysygerwn defeating Llangennech in the Under 16’s League Final and Port Talbot defeating Pontarddulais in the Under 14’s League Final.

We are very grateful to W Walters Engineers Ltd who have agreed to continue their sponsorship of the league into the 2011 season.  Their support is much appreciated.

Thanks to the continued support of Russell Davies, our new President, we were able to take a squad of Under 15’s on a coaching trip to Lords in June.  The trip coincided with the county championship match between Middlesex and Northamptonshire and an enjoyable day was had by everyone.

Thankfully the scheduled league semi-final play-offs and our league and cup finals were played to a conclusion.  Rain delayed the Under 14’s and 16’s League Finals but thanks to the best efforts of Hugh Williams and his assistants at the Pontarddulais Cricket Ground they were played before the children returned to school in September.  Thanks must go to Ieuan Hughes, who despite having resigned assisted me with the arrangements from behind the scenes.  Thanks must also go to the league umpires who readily gave up their time to officiate in the matches.

The winners of the zones of the under 11’s cup, 12’s, 14’s and 16’s leagues were:

To the delight of our treasurer ‘late result cards’ and ‘No Teams’ were a frequent feature as the fines reached record proportions falling just short of £1,000.  One club contributed over 10% of the total, and while fines are a good source of income it is something which the management committee would like to see alleviated completely.  Many of the late result cards were for matches which had been abandoned with club organisers forgetting to send in the result cards.

The management committee welcomed the application from Tondu Cricket Club to join our league, and they were elected into membership at the AGM.  Peter Williams, our Chairman for the past 3 years decided to stand down in October and I would like to thank him for his work for the league during his time on the management committee.

After an absence of 8 years Brian Crockett, a past Vice-Chairman and a Life-Member of the league makes a welcome return to the management committee as our new Chairman.  He becomes our third chairman during this time, and will hopefully now give us some stability as we approach our 40th anniversary in 2013.
