Season 2009 Report
Lisvane Cricket Club made a clean
sweep of both Division 1 and Division 1 reserve and will take their place in the
next year’s South Wales Cricket League re-named the Glamorgan and Momouthshire
league due to the formation of the new pan South Wales Premier League. Lisvane
also won the National award for the Institute of Groundsman Volunteer Sports
Grounds Management Team of the Year (picture below).
This has meant that three clubs are being promoted through all the Conference
divisions with no relegation.
Therefore runners-up Newbridge and 4th placed Llantwit Fardre will
join Lisvane in the higher league next season due to the league’s decision to
disallow third XI sides promotion into that structure hence barring Cardiff 3rd
XI promotion.
In the second division, Cross Keys came out on top but unfortunately will not
gain promotion as the club has recently taken the decision to abandon their
youth sides. It is the requirement of the league that a team should run at least
one youth side to gain promotion to the first division.
Consequently runners-up Pentwyn, together with Pencoed and Whitchurch Heath will
plying their trade in the first division next year. Reserve division 2 champions
were Pencoed II.
In Division 3, Llantwit Major Cavaliers were champions and the other promoted
clubs are Abertillery and Llanarth. Reserve champions were Barry Wanderers II.
In Division 4 Monkswood were champions and the other promoted clubs are Barry
Wanderers and Bridgend III. Reserve champions were Christchurch II.
In the Alliance division for one team
Clubs, Cwmbran Woodlands topped the first division and Caerphilly and Bedwas the
